talking with your kids about difficult subjects: illness, death, and more…

mary had a little lamb house in massachusetts via seejaneblog.co

talking to children about difficult topics is a hard, yet crucial, part of parenting. in the past i’ve discussed the “birds and the bees” talk on seejaneblog. that is just one of many difficult subjects to discuss with children. today, i am sharing ten recommendations for having similar conversations with your kids. i would really like to hear what you have to say on the subject. head over to Boston Mamas right here to read the post!

good luck parenting, friends.  i’m having my roughest year yet – darn teenagers.

* picture taken via instagram @see_jane this past fall while visiting the schoolhouse that inspired the nursery rhyme mary had a little lamb. it’s located in sudbury, massachusetts and you can read more about it, here and here.

myla: wants to grow up and be an archeologist. and play tennis.
kj: wants to grow up and become “the next Steve Jobs.”
sela: wants to grow up and be a fashion designer.

*she made her high school freshman softball team!!! and, she has been asked to occasionally play on the JV team. her first game was a JV game this past friday. she has a few things to learn (for example, she had a third strike, the catcher dropped the ball, and she didn’t know she should run to first — so, her teammates were all yelling at her run! run! run! hehe…) – it’s so fun to watch her. a total highlight of my week. we just need the weather to warm-up so we’re not freezing when we watch!

happy sunday.

Ribbon Bar :: for girl athletes!

last night we hosted our first high school team dinner because kiana is now on the freshman softball team!!! we are so excited. i wanted to do something special for the dinner since we were the first team dinner kicking off the season.

i have always been a fan of ribbons at the end of braids and tied to the tops of ponytails for sporty girls – i think it’s the perfect detail. so, i went to Jo-Ann’s fabric store, and stocked up on my favorite red & black ribbons, the local school colors. i displayed the ribbons as the center piece for dinner, and had scissors to cut the ribbons and coordinating gift bags for the girls to use. each girl chose what ribbons she liked, and everyone took home a bag of ribbons home for this season. it was a total hit. {ha! pun.}

i really like the team dinners tradition. all of the sports teams at our high school have dinner together at different family homes who volunteer to feed the athletes the night before every game. this is totally new to us – does your local high school or high school teenagers do this? it’s a great way to unite the team, and a good way for parents to get to know the kids you are cheering for more personally.

good luck WHS girls softball teams!!!

ROSTER carries leading sports lifestyle brands such as 47 Brand, Mitchell & Ness, Touch by Alyssa Milano, Old Time Hockey, Adidas, Nike, New Era, Majestic, Original Retro Brand, and more. it’s fashionable; high-quality merchandise features all of Boston’s favorite professional sports teams: Red Sox, Bruins, Patriots, and Celtics!

through-out this post, you can see some of our favorite apparel selections for this season. while sports apparel has been historically geared toward the male audience, Roster carries a wide selection for women, and kids! for men, they offer something that’s a significant upgrade from your typical licensed apparel.

“Until now, most licensed product has been sold through your average sporting goods stores,” said Tom Emmons, Executive Vice President, ROSTER. “Today’s sports apparel merchandisers want to sell their more fashionable lines in boutiques. That’s where Roster comes in, its America’s first Sports Lifestyle store”
