*new to me*

a new-to-me snack that we discovered on our trip to southern californiazip chips! we had the cinnamon swirl, and boy oh boy are they delicious! addicting, actually. i am what you might call a super fan of snacks. and hey, that’s not to say i am not a fan of breakfast, lunch, brunch, dinner, late night meals, happy hour, etc… but snacks, well, snacks are kind of my favorite. you can snack during all your favorite activities – movies, baseball games, crafting. do you have a favorite snack?

look for zip chips at your local whole foods market. or, order them online.

for this particular snack, i recommend stashing them in your bag, going for a hike, and enjoying them til your hearts content. happy snacking! xo.

i should mention – zip chips are all natural & gluten-free!

wheat berries & edamame

husband and i attended a dinner party here in boston in January – where the above appetizer was served. it’s a mix of wheat berries, shelled edamame, seasoned with freshly squeezed lemon, sea salt, and pepper. served on endive. since having this delicious appetizer at the dinner party, i have made it twice. once at home for lunch and once in utah for another party. i prefer the mix served on green leafy lettuce, the endive is a bit bitter but makes it look prettier. so, it’s your choice what type of lettuce you serve this on. the dish is not packed with too many flavors, but it’s fresh, easy, and addictive.

if you are new to wheat berries, check this out. i purchase them ready to go at our local whole foods.

happy eating!
let me know if you try it! xo.

holiday pretzel treats

my friend gave us these little goodies last year,
and i about ate the whole batch!
she used this recipe.

…this year, we had to make our own!

Ingredients:
Bite-size, waffle-shaped pretzels
Hershey’s Kisses or Hershey’s Hugs
M&M’s

{a great treat to have the kids help!}

we made designs out of our pretzels —

{KJ’s}

{sela’s pattern}

Instructions:

Heat the oven to 170F.
Set a number of bite-size, waffle-shaped pretzels (one for each treat) in a single layer on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper,
then top each pretzel with an unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss or Hershey’s Hug.
Bake for 4 to 6 minutes (the white chocolate will melt more quickly), until the chocolates feel soft when touched with a wooden spoon.
Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and quickly press an M&M’s candy into the center of each Kiss.
Allow the treats to cool for a few minutes, then place them in the refrigerator to set, about 10 minutes.

enjoy!

i am taking those little bags to a little cookie exchange party tonight.
’tis the season!!!
xoxo.

barbie cake

* apologies for the poor picture quality, i took many of these photos in the wee hours of the morning, without any natural light. and, a few of them were taken on my iphone. i am by-no-means a cake decorator, simply a momma with a little girl who wanted a barbie cake, so hopefully this tutorial will help if you are in the same boat! readers, have you tried making a barbie cake? any advice?

** and, i have a large box full of the paper chains from sela’s lil party, is anyone interested in using them? i’d be happy to pass them along!
