*new to me*

seejaneblog readers, if you are in the U.S., how was your thanksgiving??? did you make the transition and decorate for christmas? my kids are still home from school today for the holiday, and we have a busy day ahead. before i get started with them, i wanted to start the week with this…

i have mentioned in the past that my husband has some really cool cousins who all live in laguna beach, california. one of these cousins sent me some unexpected, very happy mail a few weeks ago which included three candles that were *new to me* — created by dear sincerely:

i was instantly in love with the candle packaging! look at the details! it is wrapped so cute in fine twine, includes a little charm, and has creative definitions for each one. so unique. plus! dear sincerely can be found on etsy! ta-da, so much handmade goodness in one little jar.

look closely:

the back includes a label + bow. this candle looks cute from every angle! soon after i received the candles, my teenager swiped them and her room was smelling so good. i am a huge fan of good scents. you?

dear sincerely candles would be great for a variety of occasions – thank you’s, birthday’s, thinking of you, get well, good luck, just because, and holidays! keep them in mind the next time you want something handmade and really unique. {who doesn’t want that?!? it’s the best!}

happy monday! xo.

*new to me*

in monday tradition, i am sharing something with you that is ‘new to me’, today that includes introducing one of my friends. julia blake.

julia is one of the first women i met when we moved to massachussetts last year. and she is one of the most involved-in-her-community women i know. from local politics to school council to being the ultimate football momma, this mother of six – five sons and one daughter is a talented woman. (everyone needs a julia in their life when they move to a new city!) as our lives have crossed throughout the past year, we’ve shared many a conversation about what we’re both currently working on – what our latest craft craze is etc. yet, Julia never mentioned to me that she could paint until recently! in fact, it was entirely *new to me* when i found out she not only paints, but she takes commissioned projects – portraits, landscapes!  she’s brilliant with her paint brush!

as soon as i found out julia did portraits, look what she painted for our family! using one of the photos from our shoot with blue lily photography {shown below}, she created a 14 x 18 masterpiece of my kiddos walking up this wall of rocks. i absolutely adore it.

the best part? julia is now a seejaneblog sponsor {see the button on the right?!?}, and is offering a very generous giveaway to one seejaneblog reader! one winner will receive an 11×14 portrait including up to three people valued at $220! original art is one of my favorite things to give and receive as gifts. and Julia’s acrylic work is beautiful! wouldnt this be fun to surprise someone with at christmas? this painting may be just what you need to inspire a gallery wall!

how does this giveaway work?

you can enter up to three times!

1: Go to the ‘contact’ link of Julia’s website and fill out the information about yourself + share which painting you like the best in the comments.

2: Follow Julia on instagram {@blakezoo} and “like” at least one of her paintings.

3: “Like” Julia Blake art on Facebook and “like” at least one painting.

Leave a comment {or three!} below for each time you can enter, winner* will be announced at the bottom of this post on Monday, November 26th! good luck!

*the winner will choose a picture – a high resolution digital photo, and send it to Julia. she will consult with you, whether the photo is a good choice or not, and then paint it! talk about an heirloom! {the winner can up grade to larger size or more people at an additional charge}

congratulations, catherine! start searching for the perfect picture for julia to paint! xo.

*new to me*

happy monday friends — this week is going to be a good one! do you feel it? lets conquer together!

today i am sharing with you a darling online boutique i discovered recently — and although the shop is based out of the UK, the owner of the shop is originally from Boston, so we have a little kinship going on…

introducing: little citizens boutique

i was looking through the site trying to pick a few favorites to share with you — when i realized how MANY i was picking! i couldn’t stop! and of course you can look for yourselves, but here are a six of the hundred items i am drooling over:

ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE | SIX

this is a great shop to browse for christmas selections. i know i could easily take care of everything for sela, and so many of the little citizens in our life!

i’d also like to give little citizens boutique a warm welcome to seejaneblog, you can find the shop button listed on the sidebar as a sponsor.  you should know - despite little citizens boutique being based in the UK, with the way the internet and shipping works,  it’s super easy to order from them. i like the selection because they carry a lot of brands that are well-designed or very rare to the US: Moulin Roty, Djeco (coming soon!), Esencia, Dis Une Couleur, Le Toit de la Lune, Janod…

cheers to a great week!

image by me. this is a sponsored post, if you have a shop or product that you think would be a good fit for seejaneblog and are interested in a sponsorship, i’d love to hear from you! email me at jane@prolook.com for more information.

a hip handmade holiday

happy monday friends! today, i am sharing with you a gold-mine of holiday crafting goodness. were you a seejaneblog reader back when i made the capiz-shell inspired chandelier??? my friend susan peterson and i hosted the craft night for that at my home in utah, and finished somewhere in the hours of 2 or 3am… anyway, that same gal + another crafty friend of mine Alison have partnered with another crafty friends husband {are you following me?} and put together the bomb of all holiday books!

a hip handmade holiday, by the craft pack! clever. these gals are so clever. i have been watching behind the scenes for the past six months while this was being created, and some of us have been waiting to find out all the details of their secret projects! — we can all see it now! for only $10.00 you can buy the online book, and flip through those pages for all your holiday needs.

*new to me*

good morning & happy monday friends! today is a sunny {but cold} day, and husband is traveling in asia.  when he travels i usually put together a “what i want to accomplish while husband is traveling for work project list” and it’s not my typical to-do’s.  this time i have high hopes to get a LOT done for the upcoming holidays, a few projects around the house, and some extra workouts, plus the normal stuff.  what are you doing today?

before i dive in to my list, i wanted to share this with you… in the past few months i have been touring art institutes, and other universities in the area with good art programs — hoping to re-enroll for art school this next fall. while doing so, i discovered the most amazing thing that was *new to me*.

are you a fan of polaroid pictures? yes? no? i have a polaroid fetish! so, listen…

over thirty years ago, polaroid’s founder edwin land created seven 235-pound polaroid cameras that use polaroid film that measures 20″ x 24″, a beast in the world of large format photography!!! only six of the cameras exist today, two of them are on display at Harvard and MIT, three are in use commercially. and! the only one not in use commercially is at MASSART!!! get this, if you are a student at massart you can take a photography class that includes using the 235-pound polaroid camera!!! this is sooo tempting!

{camera in use}

according to Forbes, buying prints created with this camera cost $3,500 a piece, while renting the thing for a day costs $1,750 and $200 for each shot. {and i complain about my instant camera film costing fifty cents – one dollar/photo?!?}

as polaroid began its slow end of existence in the 2000s, polaroid research photographer john reuter met several times with a man named florian kaps to discuss how they would attempt to save polaroid’s instant film. reuter wished to continue the 20×24 line, while kaps was interested in saving everything else. in 2008, reuter and a group of investors created 20×24 holdings llc. and purchased two of the 20×24 cameras and the remaining supply of 20×24 film. kaps created the impossible project and set to work reviving the other polaroid lines.

20×24 film now lives on through reuter’s 20×24 Studio, located in tribeca, NY. new 20×24 film can be ordered from the studio for these cameras. {studio picture above and below.}

for any of you photography/polaroid lovers out there – here is a youtube video about the camera in use:

the photographer is Elsa Dorfman, a cambridge, massachusetts-based portrait photographer known for her work with this camera.

what do you think??? i’m hoping to visit this studio the next time we are in nyc, and to find the cameras in boston! it would be so cool to have our family pictures next year taken with this ginormous polaroid camera!
