flashback friday…

this photo was taken one year after the picture i posted last week.

december 1978.

it is my mom, myself, and my older brother john.
we are in my dads living room,
{my parents were divorced}

what i love about this picture,
is i remember this “big wheels” gift.
and i specifically remember wanting the hot wheels version
instead of the girly version…
i had a good amount of tom-boy in me till i was about eleven.

i have memories of riding this big wheels around, for hours, on nice days.
i remember the big plastic wheels getting holes in them,
and i would sit and fill them up with gravel.
then when i rode around on it, it made even more noise.

do you have fond memories of toys from your child hood?

flashback friday…

december 1977

the back of this photo says, in my dads beautiful handwriting…
“Franny’s first christmas taken in Moses Lake Wash. visiting sister Donna.”

the most wonderful time of the year, is here!
are you creating memories and taking photos and making an effort
to remember the glittery lights, jingle bells, and santa?
{i hope so!}

enjoy your weekend!

first of all, this is a great example as to why i don’t scrapbook.
i’m ridiculously awful at it!
second, WOW. WE ARE ALL SO YOUNG!

third, i’m pleased to report husband never stuck his
tongue in my ear for any other photo op.

i hope your thanksgiving plans are underway!

flashback friday…

once upon a time, we celebrated husbands birthday at a bed & breakfast
{here} with close friend couples…

we rented the entire place, to ourselves!

this is how it worked…

we brought tons of food,
played tons of games and at the end of the night,
the couples who had won the most games/etc etc
got to choose what rooms they slept in.

it was a battle!

the couple who lost the most games,
was stuck with the last room available.

it was a riot!

here’s a run-down of just a few games we played…

the first game,
you place a card table in the middle of the room,
and one person has a list of items they are going to announce,
for example, they will say, “keys!”
and whoever sets their keys on the table first, wins a point.

the list goes on and on…

credit card

$20 bill

hair

fingernail

sock

…you get the idea, right?

of course…

“bra!”

here’s me, {pregnant!} trying to get my bra off – down my sleeve…
dying of laughter…

i got the point! {my competetive side can come out…}

a very fierce games of spoons…

while on the subject have you heard of super-spoons?!?

it’s crazy!

kiana plays it with her friends on the weekends in our home…

you play spoons, but put the spoons in a different room
or on a different floor like upstairs or in the basement,

so as soon as someone takes off for the spoons,
you have to ALL go running to get one!

omgosh, it’s insanity!

the pictures below…
all the women sat in a circle,
and the guys took off their shoes/socks,
the guys had to walk around the circle,
letting each woman feel their foot to try and
recognize if it was their husband or not!

{GROSS! ewww, ewww, ewww, i totally opted out of this game!}

we also played catch phrase, which is standard in our group of friends.
we laugh till we’re deaf and our cheeks are sore from smiling!

and lastly, we had costco-cake!

…i was five months pregnant, with kj.

husbands 32nd birthday.

…there will be many more of these birthday parties in the rhodes family.
because there is much life to celebrate.

flashback friday…

with my husbands birthday closely approaching,
i have his birthday memories on my mind.

husband and i met at southern utah university in january 1995.
we were officially dating by spring,
engaged in october,

and his first birthday that we celebrated together
was november 13th, 1995.

i gave him a pair of roller blades.
he had never roller bladed.
growing up on a ranch didn’t offer a lot of concrete…
such things like bike riding – roller blading – etc were not his forte’.

we spent many a evenings roller blading around the southern utah university campus. long story short, he never mastered rollerblading.
picture him knock-knee’d, arms waving,
constantly trying to avoid his next fall…

i burned thousands of calories, laughing at him.

he was twenty-five years old.

long long story short.
i was in love.

{recent birthdays here, here, and here!}

flashback friday

halloween, 1997.

fred & wilma flintstone.
the first halloween we dressed up, together.

dusty & i were living in seoul, south korea.
we were in charge of planning an adults-only halloween party
for our branch {church} there.

{we took polaroids of all the couples!}

…i made our costumes, by finding all the supplies in local markets,
hand-sewing, and hot glue.

i made a stencil & used spray paint to make husbands fred flintstone shirt.

i think i’m about to lose my wig in the picture…
and, i’m six months pregnant with our first baby girl, only,
we didn’t know if it was a boy or girl…

good memories.

do you usually dress-up for halloween?

10.15.10

flashback friday

we made our annual-october trip to lagoon a couple weeks ago
for frightmares.

while there, we visited pioneer village,
and took an old-fashioned family picture…

we had done this once before,
in 2004~

and now, six years later…
in 2010!
wow. how our family has changed!
{i wish i still looked that young!}
…husband said we need to keep the tradition alive,
and go get a picture taken again, in six years…
our kids will be 10, 13, 16, and 18 —yikes!!!
