my bijou faves

if you missed the bijou market this past weekend. here were some of my favorite goods from now & in the past… lucky for you, most of these fine handmade-crafters have etsy shops!

i was shopping for easter & mother’s day gifts, with a few little must-have accessories that got mixed in… i would much rather have all these handmade treasure for easter goodies than generic-mass-produced goods.

take a look!

*****

vintage fern makes these darling little bags. i purchased the one sela is using below at the last market & she uses it almost every day. she likes to keep her itouch, lip gloss, and other Small-girlie goodies tucked away in there. it’s the perfect size for her. because she loves the bag so much & really uses it, i grabbed another one for her this past weekend – it’s a mustard yellow fabric mix with an adorable little owl on it. you can check out more bags from her shop, here.

jellabee had a booth packed with small-affordable goodies. i loved these bows – they are maybe only 2″ wide, if smaller, so they will tuck into plastic easter eggs very easily! and, these little vintage inspired button-looking-pocket mirrors are perfect basket size too!

{i picked up a few of each for the girlie’s in our family, i can see sela packing the pocket mirror in her little bag above too!}

freshly picked is always a fave, i have her goods all-over our home. this past weekend, i literally stood at susan’s booth for at least five minutes trying to decide which color of moccasins to choose for miss four. i really wanted to justify buying them in every color she makes!!! and, of course, miss thirteen already sports a red-striped bag, but couldn’t we find reason to own every bag?!?

love this shop.

now, i know these arrows by verla ivans are meant for decoration. and, after they are played with, they are likely to be used as decorations… however, i also know i would bet money that when myla & kj get these on easter morning, myla will spend the morning building homemade bows for each of them & before we all know it, they’ll be in the forest out back playing… for hours. i love the colors they come in, just gorgeous!

ok. don’t miss this one, wee waldorf is incredible! this, and this are just darling! i have a serious fetish with toys that are natural-looking, and made out of wood. ohh-la-la. and, they come with canvas pouches to store the pieces in!

sweet kiwi crochet has the cutest hats! sela~bella loves her owl, and the umba-lumba dog!

wendy and peter is an all-time fave around here. we have 2 of these stripey-headbands. they are the perfect accessory in my opinion. you can see one here on myla in our nerdy family pics that we used on our christmas card this past year.

reader question…

“…I did have a couple of questions for you. I noticed that you like great smelling things. I am in search for a great laundry detergent that has a great smell. Do you have any suggestions? Also, in search for a great body wash/soap.

I also would be interested in your cost for your blog designs. I am starting a business shortly with headbands, accessories, and little childrens clothing. I think that would be a great marketing technique.

Thanks for your help. Have a great day!

Kristin”

Kristin, i do love good scents around me constantly!

i loooove my clothes, sheets, towels, EVERYTHING to smell delicious…

my current {and long-time} laundry recipe is as follows:

tide He, powder* form only. {here}

*I DO NOT RECOMMEND LIQUID SOAP, IF YOU ARE HAVING ANY CHALLENGES WITH A WEIRD/NASTY ODOR IN YOUR WASHING MACHINE…GOOD CHANCE IT’S BECAUSE OF THE LIQUID SOAP SITTING-ROTTING IN THE PLUMBING PIPES/TUBES!!! AND, IF YOU HAVE A FRONT LOADING WASHING MACHINE, FRONT LOADERS ARE GOING TO WORSEN THE ODOR!!!

suavitel fabric softener {here} this is a latin product i discovered in Mexico about six years ago! i purchase it at wal*mart. if you want your entire house to smell fresh like this, pour some in a water bottle, mixed half & half with water, and spritz it around your home or in your closets! be careful with allergies.

and, bounce dryer sheets {here}

the combination of these three is heaven!

also, i never put bedding & towels in the dryer. i always hang dry them over my stairway banisters…yes, it’s a temporary eyesore. but, it makes my house smell good to have them drying, it saves energy, and it retains the good smell from washing them. at times, the dryer sucks the yummy scents out of the fabric.

after the bedding & towels air dry, i fluff them in the dryer on a wrinkle-free setting for about five minutes. it’s long enough to soften them, but the scent is still fresh.

i, of course, have other laundry-stain removing sprays/products but none of those affect the good smells of our laundry.

and…

my favorite body wash in the whole world, is this.
{and, it’s on sale right now!!! buy 2, get 2 free, that is an awesome deal!}

if you can splurge, have a little spa in your shower at home by purchasing this. your body will love you forever. i recommend using the body scrub, then shaving…your legs will be the most moisturized, silkiest they have ever been! and, your shower/bathroom will smell good alllllll day after using it!

lastly, if you are interested in any graphic design work, check out my etsy shop here, send me a convo. via my etsy shop… tell me what you are looking for,
and i will send you a price quote!!!

{thanks kristin for the email, i hope some these answers help!!!}

lets talk nails…

when i was almost fifteen years old…

i needed a job. actually, i needed money.

this ‘job’ needed to accommodate my cheerleading, tennis, school, and social-dating schedules…

almost impossible to find a job that had hours to accommodate all those schedules.

so, with my interest in all things fashion & beauty, i decided at that time, to become certified as a nail technician.

in the evenings, i attended the most formal ‘nail’ school i could find in salt lake city at that time. i applied for my first small business license, and officially opened…

“beckner’s nail boutique”

{my maiden name is beckner.}

i’ll admit, i was a very proud fifteen year old. and, i loved it. this was a perfect teenage-occupation for me because i was able to work from my home, chat with some of my favorite women while i worked, i could work the hours i was available, and those hours were most often when i needed more money, which was the same time most of my girlfriends and their moms wanted their nails done…

prom, holidays, etc.

i did nails for six years, then i retired. this occupation lasted through my early college years.

my ‘nail’ skills since that time have been put to use as the family manicure/pedicure momma.

throughout the year, but most often in the summertime, you will occasionally find me in the kitchen with our at-home foot spa giving pedicures to my little munchkins.

after volleyball, and evenings spent outside barefoot…i will not let my kiddo’s in the house with black feet! the cure? at-home pedicures by momma. i love this picture below. this is kj about five years ago.

when he was two years old he really loved his foot baths!

if you’re interested in ‘real’ nail tips, here you go:

when polishing real nails, always use a base coat, two coats of the polish, and a top coat. they will look gorgeous! and, should last up to a week. my favorite base & top coat, polish, and dry spray.

don’t want to paint your own nails? if you are in utah county, this is my favorite nail salon.

fragile, thin nails? try biotin, the same thing i mentioned here for stronger hair.

i am obsessed with cuticle oil. obsessed! this is my favorite. it not only works great, but has one of my favorite smells. almond. mmmmmmmmm.

dry hands? this is my favorite hand lotion, and this is a-MAZ-ing.

i wore acrylic nails during the entire six years that i was a nail technician. quirky thing, since i retired, i’ve tried wearing fake nails about six times over the past 13 years, and they drive me nuts! maybe it’s because i’m a mom, and taking the time to go every two weeks to get ‘fills’ is not in my schedule… maybe it’s because no matter how good a nail technician is, i still find what is wrong with the nails, and want them OFF! maybe it’s just because i dislike the ‘look’ of them now… i don’t know. whatever it is, i now focus on taking care of my natural nails, keeping my family’s feet clean! and, i love to paint my daughters nails.

any questions? i still think i’m a pro. ;)
