*new to me*

seejaneblog readers, if you are in the U.S., how was your thanksgiving??? did you make the transition and decorate for christmas? my kids are still home from school today for the holiday, and we have a busy day ahead. before i get started with them, i wanted to start the week with this…

i have mentioned in the past that my husband has some really cool cousins who all live in laguna beach, california. one of these cousins sent me some unexpected, very happy mail a few weeks ago which included three candles that were *new to me* — created by dear sincerely:

i was instantly in love with the candle packaging! look at the details! it is wrapped so cute in fine twine, includes a little charm, and has creative definitions for each one. so unique. plus! dear sincerely can be found on etsy! ta-da, so much handmade goodness in one little jar.

look closely:

the back includes a label + bow. this candle looks cute from every angle! soon after i received the candles, my teenager swiped them and her room was smelling so good. i am a huge fan of good scents. you?

dear sincerely candles would be great for a variety of occasions – thank you’s, birthday’s, thinking of you, get well, good luck, just because, and holidays! keep them in mind the next time you want something handmade and really unique. {who doesn’t want that?!? it’s the best!}

happy monday! xo.

thanksgiving table settings…

this past week, i taught a mini class on three different styles you could use to set your table for thanksgiving…
the nice part of this, i’m totally prepared now!

a little re-cap:

• start by choosing a table cloth or table runner. try using fabric, sheets, paper, or gift wrap in place of traditional tablecloths – it gives you more variety to choose from & is usually less expensive!
• next, plan a centerpiece. This can be traditional, or an activity for the guests. Your guests will feel extra welcomed if they are aware that you have thought about them beforehand. This includes the place cards! Keep in mind: you don’t have to put names on the place cards, you can use a greeting, or topics/questions for conversation.

{traditional}
i used christmas lights wrapped under tulle down the center of the table for fun festive lighting.  the flowers were all from costco & i re-arranged them in to small square glass vases.

• Lighting. Using candles, lanterns, or xmas lights instantly creates an inviting, warm atmosphere.
• favors – I prefer to incorporate something that will remind your guests long after they leave what a special evening they had – for example: a polaroid photo, a printed recipe card of a dish being served., a treat. Keep it simple & thoughtful.

{rustic}
this look can be very affordable, since many of your supplies can be found on a walk in nature!
the ‘rustic wood place card holders’ {i’m still dying over these!} can be found here. burlap table runners, here.

• Need more ideas? Check out pinterest for endless ideas, here. If you are new to pinterest, it is an online virtual pinboard. that lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the great WWW. People use pinboards to plan weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. Not sure where to start? Feel free to check out my boards here.
• Do you feel like you don’t have enough time to create the extra special touches, or you are not “creative” enough to put together all the special touches? Not to worry! Check out this. new to etsy? It is an online handmade/vintage market featuring thousands of artists who can help! Go on etsy, and search for “Christmas placecards” or whatever you may be looking for and you will find endless options to fit almost any budget. Also, like pinterest, etsy is a great resource for ideas!

{vintage/modern}
this look is a fun, darling twist on the traditional look.  the paper mustache place cards can be found here.  the stache straws, here.
i also had my polaroid camera sitting at this table, so guests could use the stache straws as a fun photo op!

and, last but not least! {the kids table!}
i love the look of brown kraft paper, and try to use it whenever possible…

kids turkey place cards, right here!

cheers to memorable dining!

clothespins replace the bow…

i dote on giving gifts… for every occasion.

and, as much as i like planning & preparing the gift,
i also love making the gift wrap unique.

at the recent bijou market i grabbed these darling clothespins from vintage fern.

i haven’t seen any in her shop, but perhaps if you send her a message – you can get some!
{or, this would be a great do-it-yourself-project!}

i love using them in place of bows. it’s so easy, simple, and adorable!

evie ivy overstreet.

i recently designed custom business cards for a darling etsy shop:

evie ivy overstreet. {check it out here.}

we traded goods for the business cards and i totally scored! we made the trade pre-easter, so i used the fun goodies for my kiddos easter baskets. she gave me cute lavender scented sachets for each of my girls + these darling velcro bracelets you can spot below on sela. seriously? they are some of my favorites ever! i’m dying over the mustard colored flower + the little play watch! and, i love that they are velcro, so sela can easily get them on + they fit snug & cute.

and, the best part? sela loves them!

{photos by me. this is not a sponsored post, i truly love these products!}

my bijou faves

if you missed the bijou market this past weekend. here were some of my favorite goods from now & in the past… lucky for you, most of these fine handmade-crafters have etsy shops!

i was shopping for easter & mother’s day gifts, with a few little must-have accessories that got mixed in… i would much rather have all these handmade treasure for easter goodies than generic-mass-produced goods.

take a look!

*****

vintage fern makes these darling little bags. i purchased the one sela is using below at the last market & she uses it almost every day. she likes to keep her itouch, lip gloss, and other Small-girlie goodies tucked away in there. it’s the perfect size for her. because she loves the bag so much & really uses it, i grabbed another one for her this past weekend – it’s a mustard yellow fabric mix with an adorable little owl on it. you can check out more bags from her shop, here.

jellabee had a booth packed with small-affordable goodies. i loved these bows – they are maybe only 2″ wide, if smaller, so they will tuck into plastic easter eggs very easily! and, these little vintage inspired button-looking-pocket mirrors are perfect basket size too!

{i picked up a few of each for the girlie’s in our family, i can see sela packing the pocket mirror in her little bag above too!}

freshly picked is always a fave, i have her goods all-over our home. this past weekend, i literally stood at susan’s booth for at least five minutes trying to decide which color of moccasins to choose for miss four. i really wanted to justify buying them in every color she makes!!! and, of course, miss thirteen already sports a red-striped bag, but couldn’t we find reason to own every bag?!?

love this shop.

now, i know these arrows by verla ivans are meant for decoration. and, after they are played with, they are likely to be used as decorations… however, i also know i would bet money that when myla & kj get these on easter morning, myla will spend the morning building homemade bows for each of them & before we all know it, they’ll be in the forest out back playing… for hours. i love the colors they come in, just gorgeous!

ok. don’t miss this one, wee waldorf is incredible! this, and this are just darling! i have a serious fetish with toys that are natural-looking, and made out of wood. ohh-la-la. and, they come with canvas pouches to store the pieces in!

sweet kiwi crochet has the cutest hats! sela~bella loves her owl, and the umba-lumba dog!

wendy and peter is an all-time fave around here. we have 2 of these stripey-headbands. they are the perfect accessory in my opinion. you can see one here on myla in our nerdy family pics that we used on our christmas card this past year.

do you have favorite-handmade-shops? or easter gift ideas? please share!

and, my next favorite handmade-craft-boutique is coming in may! mark your calendars for May 5, 6, and 7th, you don’t want to miss the next beehive bazaar!

12.17.10

if you missed…

the bijou market or the beehive bazaar or you don’t live near here,
here are a few of the items/vendors that have some of my favorite items!

CHECK OUT THESE CAKES!!! that’s what i’m talking about! miss twelve will for sure have one of these on her next birthday, in fact, i just might plan the entire party around the cake, they’re that amazing. and, i might want one on my birthday, too! {{{please!}}} after reading her website, there is a “Banana Cream White cake layered with fresh cut bananas and vanilla pudding”… i’m drooling.

and, would you look at these flowers. oh. my. oh. my.

any of these would be great last-minute christmas gifts,
if you order soon —

caroline at armelle jewelry is an incredibly talented friend of mine.
i love this necklace, these are one sample of my favorite vintage-inspired earrings to put on my girls…be sure to check out her entire shop!

these beanies are to-die-for!!! i chose this one for myla and the jedi quiet book is so rad.

freshly-picked {so hip it hurts} is always a favorite shop of mine. she has a great post about the beehive bazaar here. the inventory is running a little low right now, i recommend checking back with them when they have pillows… their stripey bags and pillows are to-do-for! in the meantime, check out those baby moccasins!

looking for a super-original bag for that special someone? ‘just be’ is the answer, check this out!

some of my favorite hair accessories are from here, they are currently on vacation BUT make note to check back!!!

i’ve been topping my gifts with these,
{that polaroid is a photo i took of one of my gifts for her shop!}
i love how the origami flowers top-off a gift just perfectly!

happy holiday shopping & wrapping!

step up to the plate and…

*****
i can’t stress enough, how important i think this is,
‘create your own happiness.’
are you happy? really happy?
are you so full of zeal each day for what you are doing
that you can’t wait to get out of bed and start your day?
{even if you stayed up half the night blogging…}
are you taking care of YOU?
so often i see women creating unhappiness for themselves…
and it breaks my heart.
change. make the change.
dream. vision. begin. attempt. transform. imagine, and create!
follow your bliss.
live your passions, everyday.
please.
